Brent Venables made a very difficult decision to leave Oklahoma and accept the open defensive coordinator position at Clemson. But the school made the decision much easier, reportedly rewarding Venables with a multi-year deal that will reportedly pay nearly $800,000 per season. That figure would make Venables the No. 3 most-compensated assistant coach nationally in 2012, just behind Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart.

But Venables joins a staff that includes the nation's No. 1 compensated assistant: offensive coordinator Chad Morris. In December, Morris agreed to a new deal with $1.3 million annually over six years. With Gus Malzahn accepting the head coaching position at Arkansas State, Morris moved into the top spot.

"We are getting one of the top coordinators in the nation," head coach Dabo Swinney said in regards to Venables' arrival. "I appreciate the commitment from the Clemson administration. This hire shows everyone at Clemson wants us to be the best we can possibly be."

With the No. 1 and No. 3 highest paid assistants on the staff, there will be expectations for on-field results from the school. The Tigers just won their first ACC Championship since 1991. With this kind of investment from the school, competing for conference titles are now the norm. If Clemson is not in the ACC Atlantic Division title hunt each season with this staff, the fan base will let their displeasure known. After this kind of investment, no one will accept "Clemson pulling a Clemson."'s Travis Sawchik pointed out Clemson's 8-0 start as one reason for the investment in the football program. University president James Barker was impressed by the campus energy and increase in undergraduate applications during the Tigers' fast start this fall. Clemson is just another example of a school using their football program to expose the university on a national level.

I didn't know perennial power and the Atlantic Choke Conference could be mentioned in the same sentence. Clemson is nothing but a hype machine. You won't be anything. Every time you play a real team you get beat. Your finesse brand of football doesn't beat teams like South Carolina and or any other team with physical offensive and defensive lines. Clemson is soft. The only reason you will get top 25 votes is because of the pansy Atlantic Choke Conference you play in. Both your offensive and defensive lines lose a ton of people. Good luck beating up on the pansies on your schedule. The. Gamecocks will see you again in November for beatdown #4.

Clemson fans are ones to talk about "moving on.". Y'all can dish it but you can't take it. Clemson fans are the most delusional and arrogant bunch of fans in the country. You think you're all that beating up on crap teams like Maryland, Wake Forest, NC State and the list goes on and on. And soon as you play a real team you get your asses kicked. Clemson sucks. On top of that Orange Bowl demolition, how does it feel getting crushed 3 years in a row by South Carolina? Take your medicine Clemson. Because the verbal abuse is not going to stop. You suck. You're just as big a group of hillbillies as you say WV is. Clemson = biggest idiot fan base in college football. Here's to "pulling a Clemson" many times next year.

@ JoMtneer : Dude , like the 3rd thread about Clemson I have seen you on touting your teams bloowout win over Clemson in the Orange Bowl. Congatulations. Move on . Why dont you re-inflate the tires on the family manse and try some new scenery . You and your 13 kids can all wear your WVU jerseys and smile all the way down 77 , green teeth loosely hanging on in the back of your 82 Ford Granada . Football is cyclical, be careful what you brag about one year , my hillbilly friend. Its all relative ya know , like the entire population of your infinitely stupid county up 'ahr in Wet Vagina . GEt a life brother , try showing some class for once in your life , or better yet attend one. You have been served ... and probably the first time you have been served where it didnt involve a courtdate or having your second hand furniture put out on the side of the dirt road you live off of.

This is completely that right thing for Clemosn to do.  Who cares what they get paid.  Their is no question Clemson has not lived up to expectations in years past.  But, Clemson is clearly building themselves into a perennial national power.  They are on their way to having a 4th consecutive Top 10 recruiting class and now have to great coordinators.  If Clemson has not paid Chad Morris the moneu he got then he would have been poached away by another program.  Their was a lot of chatter that Urban Meyer wanted him for the Ohio State OC job.  Obviously Clemson has a ton of offensive weapons and now with Venables they can draw even better defensive talent.  These are smart moves by the Tigers.
