Auburn's struggling offense was dealt another blow late Saturday as leading rusher Michael Dyer has suspended for the Tigers' Chick-Fil-A matchup against Virginia.

The suspension has reportedly been handed down for a violation of an undisclosed team rule. Gene Chizik has not yet officially addressed the issue.

With Auburn's lackluster quarterback play and a banged-up receiving corps, Dyer was often his team's only legitimate offensive threat this season. But he still finished with 1,242 rushing yards to become the first Auburn player ever to rush for more than 1,000 yards in two seasons, good enough for first-team All-SEC honors.

Though Dyer's absence will mean a heavier load for second-leading rusher Onterio McCalebb (532 yards), McCalebb's lack of between-the-tackles size should also mean a larger role for true freshman Tre Mason. Mason has been used mostly on kick returns this season but has averaged better than 5 yards per-carry in limited action.

The Cavaliers rank 35th nationally in rush defense--weaker than many of Auburn's opponents in their SEC schedule, but easily high enough that the Tigers face a stiff challenge on the ground with Dyer out.

That "gap" between the two divisions was more perceived than actual. Florida was the dominant team sure but the rest of the division (excepting Tennessee for three years) were pretty bad. Usually the nexy best team was in the West unlike know, where the top 3, and maybe 4, teams all come from the West. Even before the conference split into divisions the teams that later became the West were dominant for almost the entire history of the SEC. So the East can claim superiority in the 90s sure, but the West has claim to the rest of the conference's history.
Since: Mar 20, 2007	Posted on: December 13, 2011 12:24 pm Auburn RB Michael Dyer suspended for bowl game Chizik has always suspended any player who breaks the rules,personally I dont think cannibus should be illegal but thats just my opinion.People can joke saying "you cant get suspended from that program" but they know nothing about the Auburn program.Tuberville and now Chizik will suspend the best player on the team before a big game in a minute and its happened before.Dyer broke the rules and he cannot play,simple as that.If he went to school in Tuscalooser his suspension would be next year in the first out of confrence game that dosent matter.Little spanky saban has shown he wont punish a player during a game that matters.Urban Meyer was the same way at Florida and there are several other examples,Tressel tried to hide infractions so his best could play.Chizik has always suspended any player that break the rules and thats how he runs the Auburn program,very clean Um, Cam Netwon was never suspended and he clearly took cash to play. And if you really try to tell us that he didn't take the money, we will all laugh you off this page son. Auburn's program is under FBI investigation, not NCAA, for cash for play that goes back over 15 years. You will soon see the results of Pay Dye et al being taped.

I think he means consecutive seasons, but with that horid grammar in the very first sentence of all places, who knows what this author might actually mean?

One man's tea is another man's poison. My "Read much?" response was meant for the above astute observation. Not that it matters, but I'm not a "Nole" nor am I a criminal. Some of us applaud the work and independent nature of criminals and somehow justify criminal behavior as taking care of business or doing what it takes to succeed. That cavalier (nothing against UVA) attitude is what I rail against, and have been quite consistent in that stance. Take it or leave it or just resort to the least admirable take most of us have, "It is what it is," on anything and everything, including diddling little boys. Now there's a fine mission statement to live by. It definitely doesn't tax the brain much, and is a bit more impressive than "whatever." Nice try. Your comment was truly pointed at a program, not an individual. The responses which rightfully call out the sheer hypocrisy of a Seminole fan saying such things are also pointed at the FSU program not you. I'm sure even Miami or Ohio State has a fan who actually wishes their program would clean up as well, but that doesn't exonerate the program in shape, form, or fashion. This is nothing more than a juvenile case of "dish it out but can't take it." You should run for office, you would feel right at home with politicians.

Notice that not much will be released from campus (meaning classroom attendance or performance) or the local authorities (if the cause for suspension was due to interaction with local authorities, meaning charges filed, arrest made and conviction pending) without direct guidance and considerable "coaching" from inside or "above" the program. Interesting how much detail comes from certain programs' player indiscretions and how little comes from others, and our truth seeking media rarely ever questions why this disparity exists and some never even acknowledge that it exists. God forbid they bite the hand that feeds them... Though I agree with what this poster says about Auburn, how hypocritical is it coming from a Free Shoes University fan. Pot meet kettle lol. What next, will OJ Simpson lecture us on the moral ills of murder?

Auburn went from the penthouse down to the ground floor this season. They were fortunate just to land up in this game. They were outscored 87-21 by their last two SEC opponents, Georgia and Alabama, and also gave up 45points to LSU. We are not talking about powerful offenses here. Virginia managed to turn their record around from last year, going 8-4. They have enough offense to defeat auburn, in what I expect to be a low scoring game. Of course Georgia gave up 42 (could have been more) against LSU also. Does that make Georgia and Auburn equals?

You are supposed to argue against my points not some random points you pull out of a hat. The fact is Auburn has had a top 10 recruiting class the past 5+ years (not to mention a better record overall than UGA) so I'm not too worried about Auburn getting accustomed to 3rd or 4th in the SEC West. We will continue to compete with LSU, Bama, and Arkansas for the SEC West and the SEC title (the East has a long way to go) for the foreseeable future. Anyone who has to resort to calling the coach "cheesestick" really can't be taken seriously. Go put your UGA blinders back on and think UGA will win another title in the next century.
