UCLA was blown out 50-0 by USC on Saturday night to finish the season at 6-6 and 5-4 in the Pac-12, but thanks to some NCAA sanctions currently in place at USC, the Bruins will be playing in the inaugural Pac-12 Championship against Oregon on Friday. Which means that there's a chance the 6-6 Bruins could end up playing in the Rose Bowl.

Though it doesn't seem that is going to be enough to save Rick Neuheisel's job at the school. According to a report in the Los Angeles Times, Neuheisel will meet with UCLA athletic director Dan Guerrero after the game to discuss his future at the school, and the report says the chances Neuheisel will retain his job are "bleak."

When Guerrero was asked about Neuheisel's job status on Saturday, he responded to a question about whether or not a Rose Bowl berth would be enough to save Neuheisel's job by answering "that we're preparing to play for the Rose Bowl should be exciting for all Bruins fans." An answer that doesn't exactly answer anything. When asked if he would bring Neuheisel back if UCLA reached the Rose Bowl, Guerrero ended the interview.

Neuheisel just finished his fourth season at UCLA, and he's 21-28 in that span.

If he's out, he's out. It would be absurd to let Neuheisel coach in what already sets up 2 b a joke of a Pac 12 "Championship" game. It is not like the players will try to "win one for the Rickster"; they probably tuned him out long ago, and they, because of inept recruiting, come up short on talent anyway. It is a miracle this team got 6 wins but probably more of an indictment of rest of the Pac 12 as opposed to Ucla being a decent team. Neuhiesel's career parallel's former Mets baseball great Buddy Harrelson, who washed out as their manager in the early '90's, when a team of very talented players basically quit on him. And for pete's sake, even though it would give them extra practices and much needed cash, after Oregon blows you guys out this Friday, DO NOT apply for that waiver; we've seen this school go to bowl games with interim coaches twice in the past ten years already. Let the new coach start fresh, and hopefully he will be a high profile guy (June Jones is an intruiging name; if he could pull SMU from out of the gutter, rebuilding Ucla should be a cakewalk) and even more hopefully, be hired by a new athletic director as well.

"Which means that there's a chance the 6-6 Bruins could end up playing in the Rose Bowl"

Seriously . . . does anyone outside of UCLA really think there's a chance that they'll beat Oregon and play in the Rose Bowl???  Talk about a fairy tale!!  Or complete delusion!!

What was that famous quote?  " The era of USC's football dominance in L A is over!"  Something like that.
Guess not.

Fight ON!

Looks like Lane Kiffin has that last laugh on this one.  Still, hate to see Neuheisel, who loves UCLA, get the boot.  There are a lot of very good football players in southern california that UCLA does not try to recruit.  Also, those white uniforms were pretty bad.

lol 50 to zelch. wow wow wow and UCLA is in the pac-12 championship? um i think USC should be off probation. USC is a top 10 team this year and just cause the NCAA did another stupid thing nobody cares about them. Matt Barkley should be in new york for the heisman but is behind the winner Richardson- then Montee Ball( hello maybe he should win still has the Big10 championship yet and only one player ever has more than the 34 tds he has who is it- BARRY SANDERS- amazing. then luck, keenum, barkley tied with RG3

Mike Price - UTEP would be a good choice; his pre-occupations with strip clubs and dui's wouldn't cause a bat-of-the-eye in L.A.

Ol' Pirate Leach is still out there, but he'd probably get fired for exclaiming "Chinks?  I didn't know they could play football!   As long as they can catch one we'll win!!!!"

Jim Leavitt (S. Florida / 49er LB Coach) - knows how to recruit in a tough market (S Florida out-recruited UCF, Fl Atlantic, Fl Int'l, Miami, and at the end Florida St).    Someone give him an L.A. police badge and no one would notice when he hits his players...

@bobthefan UCLA is probably the only school not hurt by an off campus stadium. They play in the Rose Bowl afterall.
