Boise issues statement on meeting with Big East

As reported by CBSSports.com's Brett McMurphy Wednesday, Big East officials have pushed west to Boise State and Air Force in an effort to find the new members that would keep their endangered football league afloat.

Boise president Bob Kustra has now released a statement confirming those meetings and that Big East commissioner John Marinatto had offered a "presentation" on "what role Boise State could potentially play" in the league's expansion efforts. (In plain speak: Marinatto asked them to come aboard.)

Here's Kustra's statement in full:
“We had an informative meeting today with officials from the Big East Conference. Commissioner John Marinatto made a presentation regarding possible ideas for conference expansion and what role Boise State could potentially play in those plans. We appreciate the outreach on the part of the Big East Conference and will continue our due diligence in this matter.

“As we have indicated consistently, we will take our time in evaluating conference affiliation options and we will make an informed decision representing the best interests of the university. Boise State is a quality institution with an elite football program and a significant national brand identity. As a result, we are an extremely valuable partner when it comes to conference affiliation."
Where the Big East is concerned, we doubt anyone would argue with that last assumption.

The Big East really looks like the weakest conference. It honestly would be hard to make them BCS eligible with the teams they have.

You may get your wish.  Boise, Houston and co were pushing big time for BYU to be added for football.

Honestly this is what I would like to see

West

Boise State
Air Force
BYU
Nevada
SMU
Houston

East

UCF
USF
Navy
West Virginia (Maybe)
Cincy
UConn
Rutgers

I know it's tenative with West Virginia and Louisville, but I think Louisville would be gone first

There will be no Pac 12 offer to Boise EVER.  They turned away Texas and Okie, in part because it required them to take their partners- okie st and Texas Tech.  Those schools are not academically on the same level as Pac 12 schools.  Boise St is less so.  Those Presidents take their academic status seriously- as they should.  Big 10 schools are the same way-  Missouri found that out last year

It seems to me a PAC-12 expansion would be the best fit for BSU. The Big East isn't going to do much for BSU football.  At this point, they might be better off being independant and trying to get on the major conferences' schedule (if the others are willing to use a non-conference "gimme" slot for them or TV pays enough).

I support Boise St staying in the MWC, however, I would support a move to a new national conference made up of the left over BE teams only if it were a new conference with a proper western division.
