Tennessee freshman quarterback Justin Worley was supposed to redshirt this season, but after an injury to Tyler Bray and an ineffective performance from Matt Simms against Alabama on Saturday, Worley found himself on the field late in Tennessee's 37-6 loss. Worley didn't throw a pass while in the game, but I guess Derek Dooley has seen enough of Matt Simms.

When the new Tennessee depth chart was released on Monday, Worley's name was listed as QB1 with Simms backing him up.

"I know (QB) will be the main storyline. It's just something we have to do," said Dooley. The Tennessee head coach also went on to say that he doesn't "know what it will look like on Saturday."

Neither do we, but it won't be easy against a South Carolina defense allowing less than 20 points a game and gets after the quarterback.

Still, considering that Tennessee is now 0-4 in the SEC this season and Worley's redshirt has already been burned, Dooley and the Vols might as well see what they have in the freshman. He's already seen plenty of Matt Simms the last two years, and he hasn't been enough.

Now is not the time to fix this problem. Wait until after the Arkansas game.

Justin Worley is Tennessee's starting quarterback

Why is this a surprise? Anyone who watched last week's game against LSU and the Bama game saw enough of Chris Simms' mediocrity to last a lifetime. For some reason, Simms doesn't have any football savvy at all - which makes one wonder, didn't he watch his dad play ball at all? Thank God he's a Senior and we won't have to watch him do anything beyond his capabilities - like play QB for a Division I football team. With fourth and about a foot to go for a first down, anyone knows not to carry the ball on your hip - if inches are critical, which they were, stretch the ball as far as it will go.

Coach Dooley should be commended for the gutsy fourth down calls he made throughout the game - it's just too bad he had Chris Simms try to execute them. And he should be further commended for stopping the bleeding, benching Simms and giving the ball to Justin Worley for the USC game, and, hopefully, for the rest of the season. Carry the Clipboard's what you do best!

Justin Worley is Tennessee's starting quarterback

I kinda hate to see him off "Red Shirt" however it's a great time for him to learn and I have a feeling that Bray may not stay past his Junior Year...He's tall and can throw the ball which is what the NFL really needs now time will tell. I have seen Justin Play in High School and he has what it takes to be a Great Quarterback not quiet as tall as Bray but almost. I will say Bray will be kept honest with Justin in the wings. It's good for all and I'm glad to see it happen. The thing that really impressed me and the most was the Wilcox Defence Awesome Job and they'll only get better! Watch-Out SEC here comes The Tennessee Nation again!

When your quaterback has really neever delivered, holds the ball way too long, makes most all terrible throws, what do you do. I admire Simms for taking horrible licks and keeps on ticking but it is clear we can't win with him. So you burn the redshirt. Bray won't stay 4 years if he stays healthy from here on so putting Worley in now may be a blessing down the road. When you are on the bottom, you do things like this--may turn out good or bad--we will see.

Fairshake, I've seen all I need to see and so has everyone else. Simms (Thank God) is gone after this year. He looks like a high school quarterback the way he looks at the intended receiver from the time after the snap until he releases the ball. I say give Worley the snaps, he can't do any worse. In response to your comment about who has Bray beaten? I doubt we would have made it to a bowl game last year had they not made the change to Bray.

Matt Simms has not produced for UT, but Matt Simms has played his games against the top teams in the conference and in the nation.
Bray is a good quarterback, but what top team has he beaten.

Matt deserves a chance to play against some of the weaker teams in November.
You can't compare Apples and Oranges. Or LSU/Alabama and MTSU/Vandy!
