Report: Suspended LSU players won't miss Alabama

On Thursday night CBSSports.com's Brett McMurphy reported there was a possibility that the three LSU players who were suspended for failing a drug test, Tyrann Mathieu, Spencer Ware, and Tharold Simon, could all be forced to sit out next week's game against Alabama as well. Which, obviously, would be a very big blow for the Tigers as their game against Alabama might not just settle the SEC West, but a berth in the national championship game as well.

However, according to a report in The Times Picayune on Friday, that will not be the case. Citing an anonymous source close to the situation, the report says that all three players will miss this weekend's game against Auburn but return in time for Alabama.

Which is good news for LSU, as Spencer Ware is the team's leading rusher and Tyrann Mathieu had been garnering some Heisman Trophy attention for his play this season, which this suspension will likely put an end to.

The three players tested positive for synthetic marijuana earlier this week.

"What federal job or high level personel you place does not test for THC?"

They did not fail a test for THC.  They failed a test for fake marijuana and that does not have THC in it.  Naturally, every test we do includes THC, along with just about all other illegal drugs.

Report: Suspended LSU players won't miss Alabama

And this news will surprise no one.  The haters will say that the fix is in and all other rational people will think they are being punished enough for such a small infraction.  Hopefully, LSU has now seen the last of supspensions for a while now.  Hopefully!

I find it funny that an LSU fan tries to claim that "rational" people will feel a one game suspension is enough for popping dirty on a U.A.  Most people would get fired from their jobs for popping dirty.  Wonder how many "rational" people think that's too harsh.  I'm not saying that the kid should be kicked off the team completely or even miss several games, but don't act like someone somewhere wasn't making damn sure these kids made it back for the Alabama game.  Or am I being too irrational??

@idbowhunter--These kids do not have jobs, so bringing up getting fired has no bearing on this case.  Most companies do not even bother to test for this.  I am an executive recruiter and that is not a part of our drug screen, and I am placing people in upper level positions with major corporations and the government.  My bet would be that most schools do not test for this either.  I cannot think of a smaller reason for a player to be suspended for a game.  There was no drinking and driving, no violence, and no victim.  So yes, I think you are being irrational.

fredneck - why would Bama fans be getting scared?  Aside from their continuous legal troubles, LSU also has to worry about these facts:  Bama has a better LB corps, better DBs, better O-line, far better RBs, QB and receivers are a push.  LSU has a better D-line possibly.  Plus, Bama has home field and the motivation of revenge for losing a close one in Baton Rouge last year.  All keys point to a Bama win...I predict Bama 27-17.  Keep dreamin' man

To the guy saying they get to rest three start players, you do realize they could rest those players anyway WITHOUT the stigma of a postivie drug test as an excuse to do it??  Let's be truthful here, as an LSU fan, I'd be absolutely giddy if three star Bama players had to miss the game.  Who gives a crap about the excuse of "boo-hoo, we didn't play their best"?  I want to WIN.  If we beat Bama and went on to win the national championship, there will be no asterisk in the record book or on the trophy that we beat Alabama with three of their starters sitting out for a positive drug test.  Same thing, Bama fans.  You realistically should not care less if LSU were to miss some players.  That BCS trophy will look just the same!
    Now, if I can only find a talking goat who will go to the media and say Nick Saban propositioned it..................

I know that more than a few people will say I'm wrong, but maybe the NCAA should stick to testing for performance enhancing drugs, and if eating contests, and power napping become NCAA sports; test for weed.

I agree.  Don't want to hear any excuses, just want to see the best regular game of the season.  Plus, I want to see Trent mow down the "Honey Badger".....I mean the Herbal Gerbil.  RTR

@LSUTIGER1978

I think you just eliminated 3/4's of the post on this board from consideration.

Personally I want to see them all play against Bama...I want to see the best game I can.
