What we already knew was that Oregon All-American cornerback Cliff Harris had topped a long string of traffic incidents with a 4:30 a.m. June citation for driving 118 miles-per-hour on the Interstate to Eugene--in a UO employee's rented Nissan Altima, no less. The resulting fine brought Harris's total owed to various government agencies to somewhere between $6,000 and $8,500.

What we didn't know was that the incident could have been even worse for Harris, as this dashboard video obtained by Oregon TV station KATU shows. The state trooper that pulled the Altima over asks "Who’s got the marijuana in the car?" before Harris responds "we smoked it all." The trooper eventually asks Harris to perform a sobriety test (which he passes), and admonishes both Harris and quarterback Darron Thomas -- also present in the vehicle -- for their responsibilities to the football team. "How do you think [Coach Chip] Kelly would like it if I called him?" the trooper asks.

Harris later says in the video that a cousin in the car had been smoking the marijuana, but he had not. He is eventually cited for speeding and driving with a suspended license, but not for reckless driving.

To get the full details of the video, either read KATU's transcript or watch the video below for yourself:

While the video changes nothing for Harris from a legal standpoint, the previously-unreported presence of both Thomas and (likely) marijuana might change things for Kelly. A suspension or other punishment for Thomas might be on the table. A lengthier suspension for Harris -- already out for the season opener vs. LSU -- might be as well.

In the end, the video does nothing to make the longest offseason of Chip Kelly's career any shorter.

I guarantee that anyone, ANYONE else going 118 without a DL would have been arrested.... Then you add the pot, AND the record of speeding and not paying the tickets... This is incredible. The others werent even asked to step out of the car. I think Chip Kelly is faced with a very tough decision here, as by all rights, he should suspend Thomas as well, but that would mean then likely loss of the first game, and perhaps the chance at a national title. Perhaps he will not go the direction Coach Tressel went at tOSU.

I think Oregon University is a DISGRACE to college atheletics. the men's basketball team has NOT graduated a player in 15 years!! the football team has criminal records every year! Both sports should be banned. The university is a disgrace!!! A JOKE!!! this MUTT will get a one game suspension. If he were not a football player he would have been arrested on the spot, the car searched and punished a whole lot more than this. This is an ABSOLUTE DISGRACE!!  This cop should be suspended. His supervisor should be suspended. What a NATIONAL laughing stock this university is. ABSOLUTELY SICKENING. This MUTT is getting a free ride on taxpayer dollars and he is out speeding at 118 mph while smoking pot. Maybe he would be doing society a favor if he just wrapped the car around a tree at 118. We ALL know once he gets out of college, if he doesn't make the pros, he will be robbing gas stations because we ALL know he won't be graduating(way too stupid) and he will NOT actually get an education. Jst play football for 4 years and then become the waste that he is on the road to becominig. So many people give NOTRE DAME a hard time but they graduate 92% of their football players. NONE of them are this STUPID!!!

Chip just wants to win.

Let's see, this is what, the 3rd traffic violation by Harris, along with an MIP, all in the course of a couple years at UO?  Chip gives him a one-game suspension.  Oh, that's rough.
Thomas, sure... he was just the passenger.  In a car going over 118mph, claiming they had smoked all the pot.  Just like he was in the car when Masolli got busted in a traffic stop and pot found (the 3rd or 4th time Masolli got in trouble, and finally kicked off the team).  Thomas was also in the car with the LB that crashed his car while street racing.  No pattern here; Thomas is a stand up citizen, right?
They both have suspended licenses.
I hope Chip keeps disciplining his players like this, that way when the NCAA is finished with their investigation of both the UO football program AND basketball program, they will come down harder on UO.

It is hilarious how this trooper treats him because he is a football player. It smells like weed and they don't even check the car or anything. The trooper asks him to see his ring before the field sobriety test. That is a joke. I wish I got away with stuff like this :). I am going to start telling them I am some football player when I get pulled over now. All I have to do is know what there date of birth is and pretend I don't have a license. I am sure most of them don't know what football players look like since they wear helmets.

Why does the University of Oklahoma go by OU, anyways?

seriously!?    there's like 6 posts about this......???? this what you guys complain about in the NW?

I still don't know exactly what the question is....what's there to explain?    I'd be focused on the nature of my recruis rather than the "tag" in a link to a page about a story regading two individuals {if you shook the tree hard enough} probably shouldn't even be playing ball!   humph..?..good luck with that

Hey Jerry!  You moron, OU is Oklahoma University.  UO is the University of Oregon.  Pretty simple really.  If you aren't a total d*mb*ss that is!  Thomas was sitting in the car.  Wasn't driving.  Wasn't smoking.  No story here.  Move along people.  Oregon State just had 4 players busted for MIP...but who cares because they suck.  meh.

Yeah, so Oregon Ducks are stupid. Big news.  BUT is stupid, too, cos they put "OU" on the link on the homepage. OU? Oklahoma? And on that note, why does University of Oklahoma go by OU, anyways? Just wonderin'.

118, pot in the car, and driver had a double suspended license.... and they go free with citations.

You know Kelly won't suspend DT for being in that car. They care about winning and there is no way they do anything to lower their chance in that game.

The Zeros once again prove they are thug U.
