Report: Significant NCAA investigation of Pryor

The Ohio State football community was rocked early Monday with the news of Jim Tressel's resignation as the head football coach. This may end up being a Memorial Day that Buckeyes fans would rather forget, particularly if star quarterback Terrelle Pryor ends up receiving further punishment for receiving impermissible benefits.

Trouble at OSU

The Columbus Dispatch reported Monday afternoon that the NCAA and Ohio State are conducting an independent investigation of Terrelle Pryor, according to sources close to the situation. The school would not confirm whether Pryor is being investigated, but sources informed the Dispatch that this is the "most significant inquiry to date." Pryor has been questioned by OSU compliance officials before, but after seeing Tressel's tale come to a screeching halt there is plenty of reason for concern in Pryor's case.

Pryor has already been suspended for the first five games of the 2011 season for selling or exchanging memorabilia for cash and tattoos, so it is hard to imagine any good ending to further investigation. Since that December suspension, more details have emerged that tie Pryor to different automobiles and signed uniforms.

With all the buzz around Pryor, particularly with rumors of more Ohio State related information to be released in the coming days, it is not unlikely to imagine that Pryor may have played his final game in a Buckeyes uniform.

Like what exactly?  Most consecutive times throwing off his back foot into double coverage??   This kid was a joke, and never lived up to the hype.  I'm glad to see him go

I see what you are driving at, but it doesn't make sense killabee3.  what gets missed is the idea that schools are paying athletes.  The get a free education including room and board (up to 100,000).  the get a book allowance (typically 1,000 per semester; 16000 for the 4 years).  They are stocked with shirts, warmup pants, socks, other clothing.  Now, if Pryor really thought he could join a semi-pro league out of high school, then go ahead.  here's the problem, those boys are one injury away from being on unemployment.  Good luck trying to explain that to someone whose life has been ruined by injury, and who still needs to attain a college degree to find a decent job. 

STOP PRETENDING THESE GUYS DON'T GET ANYTHING FOR PLAYING.  WITH A LITTLE PLANNING AND SOME HARD STUDYING, THEY CAN EARN A TICKET TO A BETTER LIFE NO MATTER WHERE THEY CAME FROM.   THAT'S MORE THAN SOME PEOPLE EVER GET IN THEIR LIFE.

Some D-I schools are over $30,000/year out-of-state, so tuition alone approaches $125,000 for the 4 years.

If they live off campus, add another $1000-$1500/month stipend for rent and food for 3 years (after their freshman year on campus).

Add in another couple thousand/year in clothing.

And don't forget the numerous grants available to athletes through both the Feds and NCAA and, if these kids have any guidance whatsoever from their coaching staff or parents, they shouldn't be left wanting for anything most college kids have.

Rail road his  ass right out of Ohio State as will as football...................he wont be back trust me on that, hes trouble where ever he goes  if he makes the NFL someday his career will be short lived!

I dont know whether that comment makes me feel sorry for him or maybe makes me feel like he is so dumb that the NCAA should just give him a pass and let him play.  I see his future along the lines of Maurice Clarett....Where did he go to College again?  Ohio State.

Who goes to tOSU to become a Star NFL quaterback????

When was the last time tOSU produced a Star NFL quaterback???

Before you say Troy Smith, Think about it what your getting ready to say. How long did TS sit behind Kyle Boller in balitmore? How long has TS sat behind Alex Smith in SF, before he got his start? Quite Frankly he hasn't even done a good job at SF still. SF is going to be in the running for Kyle Orton or Kevin Kolb which then will put Troy Smith back on the bench once agian.

So in short to a short comment,

YOU DON'T GO TO tOSU TO BECOME A STAR NFL QUATERBACK......... Maybe as a Linebacker, Lineman, Defense back, Running Back, and Wide reciever Just NOT A Quaterback.

@last lion fan..i understand the concept of student athlete and scholarship and i support the rules of no bennifit to players while recuiting but most star athlete know wat school they want to attend for tv exposer and playingtime..but the reality is tutition goes up 6% every yr and the avg fee is about 30g yrly for bachalor degree books r no less than $200ea so yes players get what they need during the yr.. only about 30% of athlete get job in their field of study if theyre not playing professionally so like i said a degree seems useless in today economic situation...my beef is ncca have all these rules and sanction bennifits themself gettin billions from tv deals, merchandizing, jerseys ,ticket sales etc..but a player cant bennifit from simple things such as free meal or cloth outside school who wats to eat cafateria food and wear school apparels for 4yrs..wat if there car breaks down, credit card and other personal payments due...im not sayin colleges sud paid athete extra but y cant they accept gifts or donates from appreciated fan when wen college vp, ceo, broad members, recruiters coaches etc get pay millions to enforce rule policies n be disciplinaries sounds like hightest payed babysitting jobs to me

Is there still time for Pryor to apply for the Supplimental Draft?  He might want to do it at this point.  Some team would probably be stupid enough to take him in the 2nd or maybe 3rd round.
